Scurdie Ness Lighthouse
Scurdie Ness Lighthouse sits at the entrance to Montrose Bay and has been guiding ships safely along the Angus coastline since the mid-19th century. Designed by the famous Stevenson family of lighthouse engineers, the striking white tower stands against open sea and sky, making it a recognisable landmark and a great spot for coastal walks and photography. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, the surrounding area is easily accessible and offers uninterrupted views across the North Sea and back towards Montrose.
The coastal paths around Scurdie Ness are flat and easy to walk, making them suitable for all ages and ideal for a relaxed stroll by the water. The open shoreline is popular with walkers, dog walkers and birdwatchers, with seabirds often visible along the rocks and offshore. On calmer days, the area has a peaceful, almost secluded feel, while rougher weather brings dramatic waves and changing light that make the views especially striking.
It’s a great place to pause, take in the fresh sea air and enjoy the quieter side of the Angus coast. With Montrose Beach and the harbour nearby, Scurdie Ness Lighthouse works well as part of a longer coastal walk or a gentle day out by the sea. Whether you’re visiting for a short walk, sunset views or coastal photography, this scenic spot offers a relaxing and memorable way to experience the local coastline.
